SOSU names new arena

Southeastern Oklahoma State University will officially dedicate the new Bloomer Sullivan Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

The dedication ceremony, to be held in front of the facility, begins at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a reception.

The new arena opened for use last fall for basketball games and the December commencement ceremony. The arena also hosted the recent Bryan County Basketball Tournament.

The facility has a capacity of 3,000 for basketball and includes four scoreboards, a jumbotron, offices, and the First United Bank Blue & Gold Suite. Funding was through approval of the Durant city sales tax proposal in 2004.

Another special event that evening will have former Southeastern basketball star Jerry Shipp presenting his 1964 Olympic gold medal to the University. That ceremony will take place between the women’s and men’s games against Cameron. The women tip off of 6 p.m., and the men’s game begins at approximately 8 p.m.

WHY? ? ? ? Bloomer Sullivan was the "old arena" - Give the new building a its own name! How about the "Crystal (Robinson) Palace"

I would have preferred the "Dennis "The Worm" Rodman" Arena! And they wonder why Dennis doesn't comeback for appearances.
