SOSU removes scholarships from basketball players

The Southeastern men's basketball team will have a new look next season. Head Coach Tony Robinson has taken scholarships away from almost half of his current roster.

The move comes on the heels of a 5-22 season in which the Storm only managed 2 conference wins. Scholarships are only guaranteed for one season, but it is unusual for a coach to take multiple scholarships away following a season.

KXII sources indicate that the move was made solely based on an attempt to upgrade talent on the roster.

Have you guys researched Coach Rob and seen all of his accomplishments in his coaching career? Before you start cutting him down as a coach I suggest you do that. These kids are lucky to get a chance to play for him, I have several friends who played for him for 4 years and they all have mad respect for him. If they didn't cut it on his team, then it wasn't his fault because I know from experience that he does everything he can to help those guys grow and become the best bball players and men they can be. Most of the guys who got their scholarships pulled were punks who had no respect for SE or Coach Rob you could tell it when you watched them play. The fact that you guys are defending these guys just shows that you don't know much about basketball, coaching, or what it takes to succeed in life. Hopefully Coach Rob and Coach Dreiling find some players that want to learn from their vast experience because the players this year were just a waste of scholarship money!

You guys are stupid! They aren't going to get rid of Coach Robinson, he has done too much for the university and bball program. After only winning 8 games in 2 season, he had to do something, he would have been stupid not to. Coach Robinson is only doing his job, he needed to free up scholarship money to get some talent so they can win. The players had a choice to walk on even if their scholarships got pulled but they chose not to. That's not Coach Robinson's fault he is just doing what he has to do to win. You all need to get out of Bryan County every once in awhile, its a big world out there and no one cares what you did at a Class A highschool.

Former storm fan- is your last name Moody?? just because their name is Robinson Fan doesnt mean their last name is Robinson...Coach Robinson has alot of fans out there that arent his family, I was a student in the HYPER dept and had Coach Rob in class and let me tell you he is a great guy on and off the court. This article only says they removed scholarships, you don't have to be on scholarship to play, therefore if Moody really wanted to play he would continue to walk on and prove himself and maybe win his scholarship back, but apparently he decided it wasnt worth playing if he wasnt on scholarship, I wouldnt want players like that on my team either, apparently all he cares about is money and doesnt want to put in the hard work that goes hand-in hand with that money.

Yes Coaches recruit players who they think have talent, but once those players get to college it is there responsibility to improve and grow each year and to learn from their coach. The coach has no control over whether these players want to do what it takes to succeed once they get into the program. I have been watching Southeastern basketball for over 20 years and Coach Robinson is one of the best things that has happened to SE athletics is the past few years. He has re-invented his team before and I am sure that he will do it again this time. We all need to be more supportive of our local teams AND coaches. Good luck next year Savage Storm and Coach Robinson! I look forward to watching many more exciting games!

I actually agree with them, if Jr Moody had not been cut there would have never been an article. end of story. Nobody cares about those other guys so dont act like you do. You only Care about Moody because he was a bryan county all star. big deal, get over it. Coach Robinson made the right decision

Dear Robinson Fan--Is your last name Robinson?

Wait a minute. This is only about JR Moody. There are several who lost their scholarships. I am sure that Coach Rob recruited these players. Did he not see talent then or did he waist valuable scholarship money that could have gone somewhere else?
