DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern (21-8) earned its invitation to the dance, finding out Sunday night that it had earned the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament to be held in Canyon, Texas, and hosted by West Texas A&M.
The Savage Storm will face a familiar foe in the opening round, drawing No. 3 seed Central Oklahoma (25-5).
Times for the event have not been set, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
The contest will be a rubber-match, as SE earned an 87-76 win over the Bronchos in Durant, Okla., on Feb. 14, which was revenge for a 76-59 loss in Edmond, Okla., on Jan. 24.
This marks the program’s third trip to the South Central regional, where they hold a 3-1 record in regional play and a 5-2 record in all NCAA postseason competition.
The Storm emerged as regional champions in their last trip to the post season in 2002. They defeated Washburn, Missouri Southern and St. Mary’s to win the region on their way to an NCAA National Runner-up finish.
SE’s first appearance in a regional was a 69-67 loss to Missouri Western in the first round of the 2001 South Central Regional held in Kingsville, Texas.
On the same side of the bracket with the Storm is No. 2 seed Washburn who will face No. 7 seed Incarnate Word.
Across the bracket, West Texas A&M is the No. 1 seed and host for the tournament and will face No. 8 seed Abilene Christian, while Emporia State earned the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 seed St. Mary’s.
