SOSU to host softball regional

Southeastern (50-11) will host its first NCAA Division II Regional Tournament May 8-10 when it will host Abilene Christian, Central Missouri and Missouri Western in a four-team, double-elimination tournament at the Southeastern Softball Complex.

The Savage Storm finished No. 2 in the final NCAA Division II Couth Central Regional poll and will open with a 2:30 pm contest against Central Missouri (34-12), which finished in the No. 7 spot, on May 8.

That contest will be preceded by a noon matchup between Abilene Christian (42-13), which finished No. 3 in the regional poll, and Missouri Western (45-10), the No. 6 team in the region.

Games on May 9 will be scheduled for 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., while May 10 contests will be played at 1 p.m., with the 3:30 p.m. used as an if necessary slot.

The winner of the four-team bracket will advance to the NCAA Division II South Central Super Regional to face the winner of the Angelo State bracket in a best-of-three series for a berth in the National Tournament.

In the other South Central Regional, top-seeded Angelo State (43-8) will open with St. Edward’s (41-19), which finished No. 8 in the region after earning the Heartland Conference automatic bid, while Emporia State (42-14) will square off with Nebraska-Omaha(42-15).

In all, there will be 16 regional sites in competition over the weekend, two for each region.

Super regionals will be held May 15-16, with those winners advancing to the finals May 21-25 at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.
