SOSU Softball wins Game 2; move on to Sunday

DURANT, OK - Abilene Christian overcame a 3-0 deficit in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game, but Southeastern's Bailey Mathes led off the bottom half with a solo home runs that was the difference as the Savage Storm advanced with the 4-3 win on Saturday in the South Central Regional in durant, Oklahoma.

SE scored a run each in the second, third and fourth innings, but a three-run fifth by the Wildcats evened the score at 3-3, setting up Mathes' go-ahead homer.

Marjorie Johnson picked up her second win of the regional, tossing 2.2 innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit with eight strikeouts.

Jami McAdoo got the start and threw 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three.

Benita Sanchez went 2-for-3 on the day for the Storm, while Mathes, Johnson and Laney Anderson each drove in a run.

For the Wildcats, Jacque Gregoire took the loss after throwing 5.0 innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits with one strikeout.

Kim Partin tossed the final inning in relief, retiring all three batters she faced.

Offensively, five ACU players recorded hit in a pair of runs, with Jackie Gentile driving and Shelby McElvain pushing home the other.

Southeastern will now advance to the championship game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, while Abilene Christian falls into the loser's bracket where it will take on the winner of the Central Missouri vs. Missouri Western State contest on Saturday afternoon.
