Three members of the Austin College baseball team have been honored by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference as All-Conference performers, led by senior Patrick Ray and junior Bennett Herrick who were each named 1st Team All-Conference. Bobby Schleizer was an Honorable Mention All-SCAC selection.
Ray, a catcher from Austin, was named 1st Team All-Conference for the second time of his career. Ray also earned 1st Team honors in 2007. This year, Ray boasted a .360 batting average with 21 runs batted in and belted 10 doubles in 33 games to finish among the team leaders in all three categories.
Herrick, a third baseman from Plano, led the ’Roos with a .366 batting average, 12 doubles and 38 runs batted in and also had three home runs and a pair of triples. Herrick had a team-best 49 hits and added 27 runs scored and four stolen bases on the year.
Schleizer, a senior first baseman from Rockwall, led the ’Roos with seven home runs and added 10 doubles and 25 runs batted in. Schleizer scored 28 runs on the year and batted .278 and also appeared in six games on the mound, striking out 16 batters in 15.2 innings of work and earning a victory.
