4-12-07 - The East Central University women’s tennis squad, ranked 22nd in NCAA Division II, won two of three doubles matches and swept No. 1 through No. 3 singles to edge 26th-ranked Midwestern State 5-4 Thursday in a critical Lone Star Conference dual.
The win lifted ECU to 16-5 overall and 5-2 in the LSC, enabling the Lady Tigers to clinch third place in the conference while MSU fell to 15-7 and 4-4. ECU is fourth in the region while the Mustangs are fifth.
In doubles play, ECU’s Dasha Segenchuk and Ana Fernandez teamed up for an 8-3 victory over Ann Indeherberge and Cilia Muller at No. 1 doubles, while the Lady Tigers’ No. 2 doubles combination of Karlien Lotter and Julia Arguello knocked off Faye d’Hamecourt and M.dos Prazeres-Silva 8-5.
ECU’s singles victories came from Segenchuk (No. 1), Lotter (No. 2) and Arguello (No. 3).
Segenchuk, ranked 30th in the nation, topped Indeherberge 6-4, 7-6 and Lotter was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Muller. Arguello upended d’Hamecourt 6-0, 6-4.
