Southeastern got off to a slow start in the day’s opener and never recovered over the course of the twinbill, dropping game one, 9-5, to No. 5 Midwestern State, and falling 6-1 in the nightcap on Tuesday night in Durant, Okla.
The Savage Storm falls to 20-21 on the year and 5-7 in Lone Star conference North Division play and the clubs will square off again on April 17 when MSU hosts a double-header in Wichita Falls, Texas.
In the opener, SE’s slow start couple with a pair of key errors spelled trouble in the Storm’s 9-5 loss.
Jeana Keyes, Ryan Allen, Cassy Tice and Sharlie Staab each posted two hits outing, while Morgan Miller chipped in a pair of RBI.
Amanda Tanner got the start for SE and was saddled with the loss after tossing 2.1 innings and allowing nine runs, four earned, on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Cassy Tice tossed 1.2 innings in relief, facing six batters, while Lyndi Davidson tossed 3.0 innings in relief, allowing two hits and striking out three.
MSU mounted a 9-0 lead through four innings, and threatened to run-rule the Storm before SE picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Storm added two more runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to fashion the 9-5 final.
In the nightcap, SE pieced together just three hits in a 6-1 loss.
Four pitchers saw time in the circle for the Storm, with Ashley Smith suffering the loss after starting and tossing 4.2 innings and allowing five runs on six hits with three K’s.
Ryan Allen broke up a Mustang no-hitter with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Tice and Staab each collected a hit.
