Congressman says Big 12 saga could help doom BCS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - One of the most powerful advocates of a college football playoff system believes Big 12's near demise could eventually help doom the BCS.

Texas Congressman Joe Barton notes that the promise of huge increases in television rights fees was what prompted Texas and others to reject the Pac-10 and keep the Big 12 together. Now Barton figures the financial jackpot awaiting the creation of a playoff system is there for everyone to see.

Barton, who has introduced anti-BCS legislation in Congress, predicts there'll be a college foootball playoff in four or five years, if not sooner.
