Austin College Baseball Falls to Hendrix

Hendrix scored four runs over the sixth and seventh innings to open up a tight game against the Austin College baseball team on Sunday, as the Warriors dropped the ‘Roos 9-5 at Baker Field. The ‘Roos are now 2-13 overall and 1-5 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on the year.

Hendrix jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top of the first, but the ‘Roos answered back in the bottom half of the inning when Mason Leech scored on a throwing error to square things up. However, the Warriors would score one run in each of the next two innings and add another in the top of the fifth to make it a 4-1 lead, but Austin College would bring one run home in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Chase Muder to make it a 4-2 game.

Two runs would come home in both the sixth and the seventh as the Warriors extended their lead to 8-2 before Leech ripped an RBI double in the seventh and Tyler Appelquist brought another run home on a sacrifice fly to cut it to an 8-4 lead. Hendrix added a run in the ninth, and after getting one run back on a John Schulmeister double to make it a 9-5 game the ‘Roos were unable get another run across the plate.

Leech went 3-for-5 while Schulmeister, Muder and Travis Gibson each picked up a pair of hits to lead the ‘Roos. Blaine Tew took the loss after surrendering six runs, three earned, on nine hits in 6.0 innings of work. Geoff Lomax picked up the win for Hendrix.
