Birmingham-Southern scored 23 unanswered points midway through the first half to head into the locker room leading 30-14 and the Austin College football team was unable to recover, falling 44-21 on Saturday afternoon in Birmingham. The ‘Roos are now 3-3 overall on the year.
Braydon MaQuar scored on an 83 yard run early in the first quarter to make it a 7-7 game before the Panthers jumped out to a 30-7 lead, with MaQuar scoring from three yards out just before halftime to make it a 30-14 game.
Birmingham-Southern scored twice more to push it to a 44-14 game late before Blake Towery found MaQuar for an 11 yard touchdown reception with 2:56 left in the game to make it a 44-21 final.
MaQuar finished the game with 82 yards on six carries and 30 yards on five receptions to lead Austin College, while Josh Willis made 16 tackles, including nine solo stops and 2.0 tackles for loss to lead the Kangaroo defense.
Austin College returns to Sherman for its final home contest of the 2010 season next week when they take on Rhodes College on Homecoming weekend with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. at Jerry Apple Stadium.
