ECU Baseball Comes Back to Earn 6-5 Win Over Southeastern

The East Central University baseball team opened the Great American Conference series with Southeastern Oklahoma State with a 6-5 win.

The Tigers (10-32, 4-24 GAC) tallied 11 hits, while the Savage Storm (19-22, 8-17 GAC) garnered 12 hits. A total of four ECU players tallied two hits, with junior Jake Caton leading the team with two hits and three RBIs.

Senior Gabriel Martinez earned his fifth win of the season, throwing his fifth complete game. Martinez allowed 12 hits, five runs and one walk, while striking out two.

ECU took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. Senior Justin Gibson started the day with a single to third and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Paul Guardado. Gibson then stole third and was joined on base when senior Benny Woodard was walked. Woodard then stole second and when the throw was made Gibson stole home for the first run of the game. Junior Jake Caton sent the final run across the plate with a double down the left field line.
