Southeastern's Jacee Bennett has been named the Great American Conference's Pitcher of the Week for the second time after guiding the Savage Storm to a championship at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic.
Bennett turned in a weekend that will easily go into the annals of SE softball history as she posted a 5-0 record with a save, earning part of the decision in all six games. She was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher of the tournament for her efforts.
The first three wins all came at the expense of nationally-ranked teams, topping No. 8 Augustana, No. 2 California-San Diego and No. 6 Minnesota State-Mankato.
She finished the event with a 2.04 ERA after allowing nine runs, seven of which were earned, on 20 hits in 24.0 innings of work.
She struck out 24 opposing hitters on the weekend and allowed just seven walks.
Bennett held opposing hitters to a .222 batting average while tossing three complete games and posting a shutout and helping on a second.
She also chipped in the game winning run on a squeeze play in the bottom of the seventh inning against UCSD.
The Storm will be back on the field on Feb. 22-23 when it travels to Ada, Okla., to face East Central in a four game series to open the GAC season.
