East Central University quarterback Tyler Vanderzee was named D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 45-38 home overtime victory over Northeastern State last Saturday, it was announced Tuesday night.
Vanderzee, a 6-foot, 6-inch, 210-pound senior out of Chino, Calif., threw for a school-record 504 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for another TD as he completed 32-of-57 passes with only one interception.
His 24-yard TD pass to Phillip Pawelek in overtime proved to be the difference. Vanderzee also threw a pair of short scoring passes to George Robbins and connected with Chris Espinoza on his longest pass play of the night which went for 61 yards and touchdown.
It was the second award achieved by Vanderzee this week. He was named Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
