Five members of the Austin College softball team have been named All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the league office has announced. Seniors Suzanne Beltran and Amber Pemberton, junior Charlotte Trudell and sophomores Jessica Baker and Briana Slawson were all honored as Honorable Mention selections.
Beltran, a third baseman from Houston, led the ’Roos in nearly every offensive category and tied for the conference lead with six home runs in the regular season. Beltran batted .347 with eight doubles, 26 runs batted in and 16 runs scored and had a .964 fielding percentage in her first season at third base.
Pemberton, a pitcher from Bowie, led the ’Roos with eight wins and a 3.35 earned-run-average, and added a team-best 48 strikeouts in 104.1 innings of work. Pemberton threw seven complete games, including two shutouts, and also picked up two saves over the course of 28 appearances this season.
Trudell, a centerfielder and catcher from Coppell, started all 40 games for the ’Roos and finished with a .321 batting average to go along with five doubles, 17 runs batted in and a team-high 28 runs scored. She also had a .952 fielding percentage.
Baker, a second baseman from Grapevine, finished the season with a batting average of .262 and added six doubles, a triple, a home run and 13 runs batted in. Baker was second on the team with 25 runs scored, and was 2-for-2 on stolen bases.
Slawson, a rightfielder from Howe, was fourth on the team with a .305 batting average, collecting 32 hits including a double on the year. Slawson scored 17 runs, drove in five more and had three stolen bases. Slawson also had 17 defensive assists from the outfield.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
