Lady Tigers Earn Sixth-Straight Win

The East Central University women’s basketball team picked up right where they left off in 2012, by earning their sixth-straight win of the season against Arkansas-Monticello, 74-45, at the Kerr Activities Center. The win pushed the Lady Tigers to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the Great American Conference, one more win then they recorded in the 2011-12 season.

ECU was pushed to victory, by what is believed to be the first time in school history that three players have recorded double-doubles on the same night, as senior Lindsay McCown and junior Alycea Price and Ashley Robison all earned double-doubles in the game. McCown tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds, Price added 12 points and 11 boards and Robison earned 10 points and a season-best 12 rebounds. The Lady Tigers also saw double-digit point totals from seniors Kodi Morrison (13) and Regan Browne (10).

The Cotton Blossoms (2-8, 0-5 GAC) started the game with a 4-0 run in the first minute of the game, but when ECU got on the scoreboard they took control of the game for good. The Lady Tigers countered the UAM run with an 18-2 run over the next 10 minutes, while holding the Cotton Blossoms to just two free-throws. UAM traded baskets with ECU over the next three minutes, but the Lady Tigers used another 13-4 run over the final five minutes of the first half to take a 37-19 lead into the locker room.

The second half was more of the same for ECU, as they never let the Cotton Blossoms get closer than 16 points in the opening minutes of the second stanza and pushed the advantage out to as many as 30 on its way to the 74-45 win.

The Lady Tigers used strong rebounding and shooting defense to earn the win. ECU claimed a 56-31 lead in the rebounding column, including a 16-8 lead on the offensive boards. The Lady Tigers also held UAM to 28.6 percent from the floor and a 0-of-11 mark from three-point range, while shooting 43.1 percent from the floor and 38.6 percent from beyond the arc themselves.
