The first half was a tight battle for control, with five tie scores and seven lead changes through the stanza. The Cavaliers (0-5) scored the first two points, but ECU then used a 6-0 run over a two-minute span to take a 6-2 lead. SGU countered with a 6-2 run of their own to knot the game at eight (14:15). The battle continued the rest of the stanza, with final tie coming with about two minutes remaining (21-all). The Lady Tigers broke the stalemate with a 5-3 run to end the first half up 26-24.
The game remained close for the first seven minutes of the second half, with the scoreboard reading 33-all with 13 minutes left to play. That is when the Lady Tigers made their move and were sparked by back-to-back three’s to go on a 10-0 run over the next 3:30.
ECU kept the pressure on the Cavaliers and only allowed SGU to score 15 points in the first 15 minutes of the half. SGU did not give up the fight and after trailing 57-39, with 3:41 left to play went on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 12 (57-45). But that was as close as the Lady Tigers allowed the game to get as they went on to win 63-48.
ECU will be idle until Dec. 5 when they return to Great American Conference action at Harding. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
