Austin College football players Scott Loy and Josh Uland have been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, the league office has announced.
Loy, a junior defensive back from Rockwall, had a big game as the ‘Roos shut down the Southwestern offense, limiting the Pirates to 155 yards of total offense, including just 55 yards through the first three and a half quarters. Loy picked off a pass and made six tackles, including five solo stops, in the victory. Loy helped the ‘Roo defense produce three turnovers and shut out an opponent for the first time since the 2006 season. For the season, he has 30 tackles and two interceptions from his safety position.
Uland, a junior defensive lineman from Duncanville, was dominant on special teams against the Pirates, blocking two punts in the game. On the first block, Uland scrambled down the field to recover the ball on the goal line to lead to the team’s second touchdown of the game. Uland also had three tackles and a sack.
