Men’s Golf Finished Third at GAC Championship

After moving up seven spots in day two, the East Central University men’s golf finished third in the 2013 Great American Conference Championship at the Hot Springs Country Club Arlington Course.

I’m very proud of the effort of the team through the course of this tournament,” said head coach Danny Key. “Our first round scores got us in trouble, but the team fought back and made a great improvement. I think it was a good experience for all the players to have to play under that type of pressure.”

The Tigers finished the three-day tournament with a 902 (314-287-301) and just 11 strokes off the champion, Arkansas Tech (891). Southwestern Oklahoma State finished second with an 892.

Senior Dakota Robbins earned a spot on the 2013 GAC All-Tournament Team, finishing second overall with a 216 (75-68-73).
“Dakota Robbins had a goal all semester to win the individual title and he worked hard all year, but came up just a little short,” added Key.

Junior Travis Arnold finished tied for 17th with a 227 (81-71-75), with his final two round being the top rounds of the season.

Freshman Jason Goben tied for 23rd with a 231 (82-73-76), after had his lowest round of the season with round two’s 73. Fellow rookie Blade Knox finished tied for 30th with a 233 (81-75-77).

Senior Travis Keeley finished tied for 38th with a 237 (77-81-79).
