Men’s Tennis Falls to Southeastern

The East Central University men’s tennis team dropped their second Great American Conference match of the season to Southeastern Oklahoma State, 2-7, Thursday, April 11.

The Tigers (3-9, 0-2 GAC) picked up two points during the singles matches. Junior Julian Caminos earned a 6-4, 6-7 (1), 10-7 win over Laercio Lobo at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Nate Kipping then picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No.5 singles over Tiago Ferreira.

ECU will be in action again Friday, April 12 at Harding and will wrap up the three-match weekend at Arkansas Fort Smith, Saturday, April 13.

Women’s Tennis Defeats Southeastern
DURANT, OKLA. – The East Central University women’s tennis team picked up a key Great American Conference win over Southeastern Oklahoma State, 7-2, Thursday, April 11.

The Lady Tigers moved to 7-7 overall and 4-1 in the GAC with the victory to remain on second in the GAC standings.

ECU started the match by winning all three doubles matches. Sophomore Bernardita Muscillo and junior Agostina Moran first claimed an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles over Marina Dias and Elba Haugen. Sophomore Aurelie Rodriguez and junior Mariah Vargas then defeated Cassaundra Braaten and Fabiola Juarez 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. The final pair to finish was senior Marta Valles and sophomore Elisabeth Dignard, who earned an 8-3 win at No.1 doubles over Andreea Georgescu and Sabina Mardarenko.

The Lady Tigers then earned wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles for the overall match win. Valles defeated Mardarenko 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Muscillo earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Georgescu at No. 2 singles, Dignard earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Juarez at No. 3 singles and Moran picked up a 6-1, 5-7, 10-5 win at No. 5 singles over Haugen.

ECU will remain on the road for two more matches this weekend. The Lady Tigers will face Harding, Friday, April 12 and Arkansas Fort Smith, Saturday, April 13.
