Oklahoma plans to add two new rows of seats behind home plate and install a new netting backstop as part of its latest updates to the baseball stadium.
University regents approved the awarding of a contract Wednesday to perform the upgrades at L. Dale Mitchell Park that would be completed before the start of the 2012 season in February.
Executive associate athletics director Larry Naifeh says the wall behind home plate will be removed and two rows of seats will be put in, with a net that stretches all the way to the ground. The grass in front of the dugouts will be replaced by artificial turf.
The changes are part of $7 million in planned upgrades that will eventually include the installation of additional seats and updated locker rooms.
