Austin College jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after one when Scooter Merritt reached base and later scored on a double by Brian Buehler, but the Yellow Jackets scored four unanswered runs to claim a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth, but Jordan Argabright scored on a wild pitch and Merritt scored on another base hit by Buehler in the bottom half of the inning to cut it to a 4-3 game.
That remained the score until the bottom of the seventh when Chase Muder roped a two run single to left, scoring Merritt and Tyler Appelquist, and Muder and Shane Williams scored later in the inning on a double by Austin Molinaro to give the ‘Roos a 7-4 lead. That’s all of the cushion they’d need as John Schulmeister came on in the fifth to toss 4.1 innings of one hit, shutout ball to earn the victory.
Merritt went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Buehler went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI to lead the ‘Roos offensively in the game.
