Bolt and Southeastern athletics would like to invite Savage Storm fans to join them in an effort to help needy families in our community by collecting canned goods for the holiday season. The canned food drive will be ongoing until Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The canned food drive is the latest event in Southeastern's CommUNITY efforts as the department continues to work in the spirit of volunteerism to give back to the Durant and Bryan County communities.
NCAA Division II is committed to developing students and communities by actively engaging in shared experiences. Through community engagement, student-athletes can direct the energy and spirit of winning to positively change society.
The next opportunity to donate will be at the gate of any November basketball game. Each can donated earns fans a ticket to any November basketball game on the schedule.
The free admission tickets can be used beginning Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. when the SE men host Science and Arts of Oklahoma in the 2013-14 season opener. Acceptance of donated can goods in exchange for free admission tickets continues when the SE women open against Texas A&M-Commerce at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 12. SE hosts Henderson State in a men's and women's double-header on Nov. 21 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Ouachita Baptist on Nov. 23 at 2 and 4 p.m. The final home game of the fall semester and the last opportunity to donate canned goods for tickets is Nov. 25 when the Storm women host Dallas Christian at 5:30 p.m.
And finally fans can bring donations at the main athletic offices in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium where there will be a drop box available until the Dec. 11 date.
"We are blessed to be a part of such a great community here in Durant," said athletic director Keith Baxter. "We feel that it is really important to find a way to give back, and partnering with our fans in an effort to provide food to some of the neediest members of our community is one way the Savage Storm family can show our appreciation."
