Southeastern cross country will be looking to keep the momentum from its third-place finish at the Great American Conference Championship going when it travels to Sioux Falls, S. D. to participate in the Central Region championship.
The regional meet will be held at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, S.D., and hosted by Augustana, with the women's 6K run scheduled for a 10:30 start.
The Savage Storm made waves on the final weekend in October when it posted its third-place finish after opening the season picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll by the league's coaches. It also matched the second-highest finish by SE in a conference championship event, behind the 2000 team which finished second in the Lone Star Conference Championship meet.
Southeastern's GAC finish was paced by a pair of all-conference runners in Bailee Weger and Haylee Story, the first for the squad since Rachelle Riddle earned the honor in 2002 at the LSC meet.
Weger turned in a new best mark in the 5K event of 19:37.8, her second sub-20 run of the season, earning herself a 19th place finish.
Story finished right on her heels in Russellville, Ark., with her first sub-20 time of the year, clocking a 19:44.4 to cross in 20th and trim more than 20 seconds off her best time.
Shelby Fraser's evolution as a runner in 2013 was also on display as she turned in a 20:08.5 to finish 29th, cutting nearly 50 seconds off her previous best mark of the season and marking an improvement of almost four minutes from her first run of the season.
Southeastern's final three runners all finished in the 30's, with Tracie Lee clocking a 20:16.2 to finish 32nd, followed by Amanda Kirby in 37th with a time of 20:27.6, just ahead of Kayle Reaves who crossed in 38th with a mark of 20:29.5.
It was the first meet of the season in which every SE runner posted sub-21 minute times.
Saturday will be the first trip to an NCAA regional meet since 2011 when the Storm sent four runners to participate in the South Central Regional Championship.
