The Southeastern trio of Christin Nichols, Nikki Nester and Bailey Welch were honored with Lone Star Conference North Division all-conference recognition as announced at the conference awards banquet on Tuesday night in Bartlesville, Okla.
Nichols was named to the LSC-North second team and earned a spot on the All-Academic Team, while Nester and Welch were each tabbed honorable mention all-conference.
Nichols, a senior from Cooper, Texas, wrapped up the regular season as the Savage Storm’s leading scorer at 11.8 points per game, while adding 3.5 rebounds per outing 1.9 assists.
She was efficient with the basketball, shooting at a 49.2 percent clip and hitting 78.8 percent from the free throw line.
Nester, a junior from Dallas, Texas, was third on the team in scoring with 9.7 ppg, but chipped in 3.2 rebounds per game and was second on the team with 3.3 assists per game.
She too was an efficient shooter, hitting 40.1 percent from the field and was one of the top free throw shooters in the league at 83.1 percent. She also hit a team-best 38 three-pointers on the year, hitting 36.9 percent from long range.
Welch, a sophomore from Cashion, Okla., was the team’s number two scorer at 10.3 ppg, but led the LSC in assists at 4.6 assists per game and chipped in 3.3 rpg from the point guard position.
Welch hit 43.2 percent from t he field and was the team’s best three-point shooter at 44.0 percent, hitting 37-of-84 attempts from long range. She also hit free throws at an 82.1 percent clip.
The Savage Storm open play in the LSC Postseason Tournament at 2:30 p.m. on March 2 when they take on LSC-South Division champion Tarleton State in the Bruin Field House in Bartlesville, Okla.
