Southeastern Softball Travels West to take on NWOSU

Having locked up a position in the Great American Conference Softball Tournament, Southeastern will set out on the trek to Alva, Okla., looking to strengthen its hold on the top spot in the league standings when it takes on Northwestern Oklahoma State in a four game series April 11-12.

Friday's games are slated for a 2 p.m. start, while Saturday's double-header is set for noon.

The teams enter the weekend as the top two teams in the GAC standings, with the Savage Storm boasting a 21-6 record in league play, while the Rangers are at 18-8.

While NWOSU is not yet eligible for the post season tournament, its games still count in the league standings and will definitely have an effect on the outcome of the regular season title.

SE comes into the series with a 28-10 record overall and a 21-6 league mark after picking up a midweek sweep of rival East Central on Wednesday.

The Storm offense is paced by Laramie Beal who is hitting .411 on the year with a team high eight home runs to go with 32 RBI.

She is followed by a trio of hitters batting better than .350 on the season in Sydney Kramer, Jessica Simmons and Haley Strawn.

Kramer is batting .391 and leads the team with 34 RBI, while Simmons is at .388 with 13 doubles and 24 stolen bases.

Strawn is the reigning GAC Player of the Week and is hitting .362 on the year with four home runs and 27 RBI.

In the circle, Mindy McElroy paces the pitching staff that ranks second in the league with a 3.07 ERA. McElroy herself is second in the league in pitching with a 2.12 ERA and a 15-4 record.

The Rangers come into the weekend with a 30-12 record and an 18-8 mark in league play after splitting a midweek twin bill with Southwestern Oklahoma State.

NWOSU leads the GAC in hitting and pitching, with a .326 batting average as a team and a 2.63 ERA.

The Rangers are led by Shelby Anderson who is hitting .473 on the year with 14 home runs and 43 RBI, while five others are hitting .300 or better.

Anderson also leads the team in the circle with a 16-4 record and a 1.40 ERA.
