Southeastern closed out the fall tennis season with solid outings by the men's and women's team at the Collin County Invitational in Dallas, Texas.
"I feel really good about our Fall non-championship season," said head tennis coach Shawn Hamil, "And the progress we have made. Now we are turning our focus to the Spring Championship season. The men begin their season against SMU Feb 6th at SMU campus, and the women's team will begin their season at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla."
On the women's side, Conchi Assiego advanced to the flight finals before falling 6-0, 7-6. This matched her performance from the OKC Collegiate open when she also made a finals appearance.
Brittany Tobin picked up a win in the consolation of her singles bracket in the third flight, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
Cassaundra Braaten upset the No. 2 seed in her singles flight in the first round before falling in the second, but continued to play well in doubles where her and Elba Haugen won the consolation bracket doubles.
Darija Catipovic finished the fall in the No. 1 singles position and progressed well, while Ilga Ricika-Racko moved to second flight, and posted a flight title at the OKC tournament earlier in the fall.
For the men, Petar Popovic highlighted a good final tournament by advancing to the finals of his flight and posting a 5-7, 6-0, 11-9 come-from-behind win to take the flight.
Joaquin Aguillera also turned in a flight championship in the fourth flight with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the final.
Nate Nelmes and Tiago Ferrieria each reached the finals of their respective flights, with Nelmes falling 6-4, 6-7, 6-10 in the title match and Ferrieria getting tripped up 5-7, 6-7.
Alberto Blesa was tripped up in the opening round by the No. 1 seed in the bracket, but recovered in doubles play with Ferrieria and won the main draw championship in doubles play.
Martin Bedcarratz and Nelmes reached the semi-finals in doubles play as well.
