The East Central University men’s basketball team avenged a loss earlier in the season to Southwestern Oklahoma State, with a 72-61 win at the Kerr Activities Center in Great American Conference action.
The Tigers (8-15, 5-11 GAC) were led by junior Gregory Ardister, who earned his second double-double against the Bulldogs (9-13, 8-8 GAC) this season. Ardister tallied 15 points and 12 rebounds. He was joined in double figures in the scoring column by juniors Colby Carr and Chris Fisher and freshman Braxton Reeves, who all garnered 11 points.

Southwestern was the first team to score, with 18:03 on the clock in the first period. ECU got on the scoreboard with 16:47 left to play to trail 2-3. The Bulldogs used a 4-0 run to take a 2-7 advantage, but the Tigers countered with a 7-0 run of their own for a 9-7 lead. ECU kept the momentum on their side for most of the stanza, pushing out to a 27-16 lead, with five minutes left to play. However, Southwestern used a 14-2 run over the final five minutes to take a 29-30 advantage into the locker room.
The Bulldogs opened the first 3:30 of the second half on a 7-4 run to open the lead to four points. However, that is when the Tigers took over the game, using a 7-1 run to take a 40-39 lead, with 13:26 left to play. The teams traded shots over the next two minutes until the scoreboard read 42-43.
ECU then went on a 6-0 run over the next minute to take a 48-43 lead and keep the score in their favor for the rest of the game. The Tigers never lead by less than three points the rest of the game and opened the lead out to as many as 11 in the final minute of the game to earn the 72-61 win.
ECU earned key advantages in the rebounding, three-point shooting and free-throw shooting columns on the score sheet. The Tigers were 7-of-18 from beyond the arc, while holding Southwestern to a 3-of-10 mark and out-rebounded the Bulldogs 43-30. ECU also hit 21-of-33 shots at the charity stripe, while the Bulldogs were 16-of-25.
The Tigers will continue their three-game home stand, Saturday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. when they host Northwestern Oklahoma State at the Kerr Activities Center.
