East Central University women’s cross country coach Steve Sawyer had announced the addition of eight student-athletes to the 2013 roster.

2013 Cross Country Newcomers
Cheyenne Choate, Hennessey, Okla. (Hennessey)
Taylor Coss, Henderson, Nev. (Secta)
Brittney Ferguson, Menifee, Calif. (Paloma Valley)
Kimberly Lucero, Pueblo, Colo. (Central)
Ana Mendez, Menifee, Calif. (Paloma Valley)
Jennifer Swart, Ames, Okla. (Drummond)

“Our women return just a few from last year's squad,” said Sawyer. “However, we added a lot of talented student-athletes to the roster. There will be eight new faces on the team this year from all over the United States. I am excited to see what these youngsters can do. If we can bond closely and train hard together as a team, then our goal would be for a second straight conference title."

Choate comes to the Lady Tigers after helping Hennessey to three-straight top-three state finishes in cross country and three-straight track & field state titles. As a junior and a sophomore she finished first individually at the Oklahoma State Cross Country meet.

Coss has been a member of the Road Runners for the past four seasons. The Las Vegas Female High School Runner of the Year nominee was a state qualifier and All-Region team member as a senior and the Nevada representative on the USA Nation West Team as a junior.

Ferguson helped Paloma Valley High School to four-straight Sunbelt League titles and earned three-straight All-Sunbelt first team honors.

Lucero has been a part of the Pueblo Central High School cross country team for the past four seasons. As senior she qualified for the state meet and earned a second-place finish.

Mendez joined the Paloma Valley High School cross country team in 2012 and helped them to two-straight Sunbelt League titles.

Swart has been a member of the both the Drummond cross country and track & field teams for four seasons. As a junior she helped the cross country team to a fourth-place regional finish. In her senior season with the track team she claimed fourth at the state meet in the 800 and first in the 3200.

Taff joined the Edmond Memorial High School cross country team in 2011 and helped the team claim conference, regional and state titles in 2011 and a sixth-place showing at the state meet in 2012.

Ubben has been a member of the Lincoln Southeast High School cross country and track & field teams for the past two seasons. As a junior she helped the team to third at the Heartland Athletic Conference championships and a district title. As a senior the team finished second at the HAC and fifth in Class A at the state meet.
