Roos will host regional volleyball tournament

11-6-07 - The Austin College volleyball team secured a berth in the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship Tournament after posting a 37-5 record and reaching the championship match of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament, and will host this weekend’s South Regional at Hughey Gymnasium starting on Thursday.

The ’Roos earned the No. 3-seed in the region, and will take on No. 6-seed Texas Lutheran University on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. Top-seeded Trinity University, which knocked off the ’Roos in five games to take the SCAC title, will have a bye on the first day of competition, while No. 2-seed Emory University will face No. 7-seed Piedmont at 6:00 p.m.

The first match on Thursday will feature No. 4-seed Southwestern University and No. 5-seed Washington & Lee University, and will take place at 3:30 p.m.

On Friday, No. 1 Trinity will take the court in the day’s first match at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of the Southwestern versus Washington & Lee match, and the winners of the Austin College versus TLU and Emory versus Piedmont will square off at 7:00 p.m.

The regional championship match will take place on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m., and will feature the winners of each of Friday’s semifinal match ups.

Ticket prices are $4 for adults, $3 for students and $2 for children under 14, and are good for the day on which they are purchased.
