12-18-07 - The Southeastern Oklahoma State men's basketball team found an unfriendly reception in returning to action after finals, losing to Washburn (7-1) 93-60 at the River City Classic in San Antonio, Texas on Monday.
The Savage Storm got its biggest boost in the game off the bench from a pair of freshmen.
JR Moody led SOSU in scoring and rebounds, posting 14 points and six boards, while Will Robinson chipped in 11 points in the losing effort. Ken Reed also reached double-figures with 12 points.
The Ichabods had an answer for everything the Storm tried, outshooting SOSU 51.4 percent to 33.8 percent, as well as outrebounding them 53-to-28.
Neither team turned the ball over excessively, but WU was able to convert points in the paint, posting 38 in the key as opposed to SOSU's 18.
The Washburn presence on the glass also contributed to th e Storm being outscored 22-5 in second chance opportunities.
The Ichabods opened scoring, but Reed answered with a three pointer for SOSU early.
However, there was not much to cheer for after that for the Storm as WU opened up a double-digit lead at the 11:52 mark of the first half at 19-8.
Southeastern got the deficit to single digits once after that, but a 16-0 run left SOSU trailing 32-10 with 6:55 to play in the half.
WU would continue to run, piling up 11 fast break points in the first half, until the Ichabods had a 48-21 advantage on the Storm at the break.
The second half did not treat SOSU much better as Washburn continued to score in bunches until it mounted its largest lead of the game, 78-38, with 7:25 to play.
SOSU answered at that point with a Robinson three pointer, and over the final seven minutes would whittle the deficit to the final score of 93-60.
Southeastern will be back in action at 3 p.m. on Tuesday against Mis s ouri Western in the final game of the River City Classic in San Antonio, Texas.
