SOSU Offense returns in win over Missouri Western

12-18-07 - The Southeastern Oklahoma State men's basketball team found its offense on Tuesday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas, snapping a four-game losing streak with a 77-70 win over Missouri Western State (5-3) at the River City Classic.

The Savage Storm got its biggest offensive performance of the young season when Ken Reed poured in 28 points to lead all scorers, while also posting a game-high 13 rebounds.

In addition to Reed's dominating performance, Kyric Rambo came off the bench to contribute 21 points to the effort.

Each team had two 20-point scorers, but SOSU's secondary cast managed to spread the offense around, whereas three players scored 62 of the Griffons' 70 points.

The Storm also got back on track in the rebounding game, outdueling MWSU on the boards to the tune of 39-to-31.

SOSU was efficient from the field, shooting 51.7 percent for t he game, including 62.1 percent for the second half.

In the early going, the contest had the makings of a back-and-forth slugfest, with the teams playing to a 9-9 tie over the first 5:43 of the game.

After that the Storm found a spark, using a 10-0 run to mount a 19-9 lead with 11:41 to play in the half.

The Griffons battled back to within three points at 21-18 with 5:52 to play, but SOSU responded and built the lead back up to 32-20 with 1:24 remaining in the first half, and would take a 34-24 lead into the break.

The second half continued well for SOSU, quickly building its lead to 15 points and maintaining a double-figure advantage with the exception of a small stretch just under four minutes into the half.

Maintaining the pressure, the Storm pushed its lead out to 59-42 with 9:43 to play before MWSU began to respond.

The Griffons whittled away at the SOSU lead, trimming it down to 65-57 with 4:41 to play, and ultimately down to seven p o ints at 69-62 with 2:35 to play, but that was as close as they would get.

The Storm pushed its lead back to double figures, holding a 77-64 lead with :17 to play before a pair of three-pointers by MWSU over the final :13 fashioned the final score of 77-70.

Southeastern will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 21, when it hosts Southern Arkansas at 7 p.m. at Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
