CARTWRIGHT, OK - A former high school football star from Denison is dead after a shooting early this morning in Bryan County, Oklahoma. Authorities say 19-year-old former All-State running back D.J. Jones was murdered.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says agents were called to the scene in the 200 block of Trout Lane around 6 a.m. 19-year-old Dresean Jaron Jones was shot and killed in downtown Cartwright. Agents and local law enforcement are currently searching for three people believed to be involved. Agents are on scene investigating a motive for the shooting.

Jones was among the star-studded Class of 2010 that led Denison to the Class 4A state semifinals in 2009. He signed with Texas A&M, but was arrested for theft before he got to College Station. Jones had been in and out of jail since his high school football career ended.

Texas A&M Head Coach Mike Sherman released this statement Friday afternoon on Jones' murder:

"I was notified this afternoon. He should be going to college and playing football somewhere. This is a tragic end to a talented young man's life. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this very difficult time."

D.J.'s mother said Friday her son was to enroll and play football this fall at Prairie View A&M University on an athletic scholarship.

The details surrounding Jones' death remain unclear.

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for Sunday, August 7th at 8:00 p.m. at Munson Stadium in Denison.
