1-16-08 - The Southeastern Oklahoma State men's basketball team (3-13 ,0-1 LSC-N) opened Lone Star Conference North Division play with a 71-55 loss at the hands of Northeastern State (8-7, 1-0) on Wednesday night in Tahlequah, Okla.
Ken Reed led the Savage Storm offensively with 15 points, while Kyric Rambo and JR Moody each chipped in double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Nate Pope did the heavy lifting on the boards with eight rebounds, while SOSU was outrebounded 35-to-28.
For the second straight game the Storm committed less turnovers than its opponents, setting a season low in miscues with just six.
SOSU got the first points of the game on a Reed layup, and the teams proceeded to trade baskets to a 6-6 tie.
The Riverhawks then outscored the Storm 28-8 over the next 10 minutes to take a 34-14 lead with 5:03 to play in the half.
SOSU did finish the half with a 5-3 advantage in the final five minutes to set the halftime score at 36-19.
The second half was a game of trading runs, with each team answering whatever run the other would reel off.
SOSU closed the gap to as close as 12 in the second half on a Moody three pointer, but the Storm was unable to get any closer despite outscoring NSU 36-35 in the second half.
Southeastern will be back in action Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. in Weatherford, Okla., against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
