1-31-08 - The Southeastern Oklahoma State softball team is set to throw out the first pitch on the 2008 season as it travels to San Antonio, Texas, for the NCAA Division II College Classic hosted by St, Mary's.
Play for the Savage Storm will begin on Friday morning when they face Eastern New Mexico at 10 a.m., followed by a 12 p.m. matchup with Texas A&M-Kingsville. They will close out day one with a 6 p.m. contest with Incarnate word.
Play will conclude on Saturday with an 11:15 a.m. game against St. Edward's, and wrap up at 6 p.m. that night with a 6 p.m. tangle with the host St. Mary's.
Three of the teams the Storm will face this weekend finished in the top eight of the final regional poll of the 2007 season.
St. Mary's was at No. 3 after posting a 36-16 record, while St. Edward's finished fifth with a 34-16 record and TAMUK was eighth at 29-18.
SOSU is coming off a 30-25 season, but returns its top four hitters from a year ago.
Rachel Lynn led the squad with a .438 average, while Rachel Sill connected on a team-high 11 home runs.
Ashley Graham was right behind Sill with 10 homers and 43 RBI, while Bailey Mathes hit .342 and led the team with 18 doubles.
Following the St. Mary's tournament, Southeastern will head to Abilene, Texas, for a tournament hosted by Abilene Christian before returning home on February 12 for the home opener against Tarleton State at 1 p.m.
