TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) - Jeff Gordon has won for the fourth time
in the last five Nextel Cup races at Talladega and Daytona, the
only tracks at which NASCAR requires restrictor plates.
The four-time Cup champion led 139 of 194 laps today and held
off Tony Stewart and Michael Waltrip at the end of a two-lap
shootout to win the Aaron's 499. A six-car crash with one lap
remaining set up the shootout and ended the chances of fan favorite
Dale Earnhardt Junior.
A wild 25-car crash earlier took out several top contenders.
Stewart was second by about two car lengths.
