2-29-08 - The Dallas Cowboys announced today that the team’s training camp for the 2008 season will be held in Oxnard, California at the city’s fields that are located adjacent to the Residence Inn River Ridge on West Vineyard Avenue. Following the 2008 camp, the team will return to San Antonio for the 2009 camp and the future years that are a part of the Cowboys’ long term contract with the City of San Antonio.
“We were aware of the potential for this development when we signed our current agreement with San Antonio,” said Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones. “We explored all of the options for the upcoming season and determined that Oxnard was a very good solution. San Antonio remains the long term home to Dallas Cowboys training camp, and we are grateful to the City of Oxnard for welcoming us back for 2008.”
The Cowboys partnership with the City of San Antonio and the Alamodome extends through at least the 2011 camp. A prior scheduling commitment at the Alamodome for the summer of 2008 brought about the need for an alternative location for the team’s training camp this year.
Dallas held its training camp at the Alamodome last summer as the first year of a long term partnership with the City of San Antonio. Prior to that, the team held training camp at the Oxnard location from 2004 to 2006.
The exact starting date for the 2008 camp has yet to be determined pending the NFL’s release of the Cowboys preseason schedule. The reporting date will be during the week of July 21 to July 25.
