Gainesville High School Hires New Athletic Director, Football Coach

03-18-08 -- The Gainesville Independent School District School Board annouced the hiring of Ricky Lock as the new athletic director and head football coach this morning.

Lock has twelve years of head coaching experience and is known for his ability to turn struggling programs around. Last year, Lock coached the Gonzales Apaches to the 3A state quarterfinals. Before coaching at Gonzales, he coached at 2A Woodville High School.

Gainesville is usually known for their strong winning tradition. Most recently they won state in 2005 under Head Coach Jeff Cordell.

The football program took a major hit when Cordell left for Greenville after the '05 season. The school board hired Matt Young to replace Cordell. The Leopards have had back to back 1-9 seasons since winning state.

Officials at Gainesville High School are hoping Lock can bring back the winning tradition the Leopards are used to.

Lock's wife is an educator and his children will attend Gainesville schools.
