Southern Cal is the A-P's choice as the number-one college football team in its pre-season poll. The two-time defending champs got 60 of a possible 65 first-place votes.
Every player who scored a touchdown in the Trojans' 55-to-19 victory over Oklahoma in last season's Orange Bowl is still playing for U-S-C. So is Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart, who threw five T-D passes.
Oklahoma and star tailback Adrian Peterson are ranked seventh.
The Sooners have lost the last two Bowl Championship Series title
games and have to replace eleven N-F-L draft picks and 2003 Heisman
winner Jason White this season.
Texas got four first-place ballots and is number two followed by
Tennessee, Michigan and L-S-U. Ohio State is sixth. Virginia Tech
is eighth followed by Miami and Florida.
