We are gearing up for this year's NFL Alumni Charity Golf Classic, a Texoma tradition helping local charities and giving our local residents a chance to play with some big names in sports. Nicole Holt has the details on this year’s event.
The greens at Tanglewood Golf Course may be empty now, but in less than 24 hours, they will be full with some big names.
"Billie Joe Dupree, Bill Joe Tolliver, Rudy Gatlin from the Gatlin Brothers and numerous others. Donnie and Dick Anderson. So we're looking forward to this," Tanglewood Golf Pro Mike Fish says.
For almost the last three decades, big names like these have teed off for a good cause, and this year is no different.
"The NFL Classic founded by Jimmy Jack Beal and Donnie Anderson to support kids of Grayson County. Celebrities from all over the country as well as the Metroplex come into play to support a charity."
All proceeds raised over the next three days will support local youth charities.
"The golf course is in excellent condition. We had a lot of rain this spring. While our grass he’s kept Bermuda grass from growing, everything is in great shape. The greens we did back in July are in best shape we've seen in years.”
To make sure this event is televised, KXII-TV will offer complete coverage from the first hole all the way to the 18th.
"We’ve got a total of 8 cameras set up- 4 in golf carts, 2 in lifts, and 2 at the desk. It takes three days to get cable installed and tested ready to go," Randy Wells, KXII-TV engineer, says.
Now that all the hard labor is done, celebrity golfers and those that just want to have fun can come out and enjoy this year’s NFL Alumni Charity Golf Classic.
