ARDMORE, Okla. -- Former Ada Cougars coach Larry McBroom is the new head coach of the Ardmore Tigers. McBroom was hired in a special school board meeting on Thursday afternoon.

McBroom has an outstanding resume which includes seven state championships in Ada. Since leaving Ada, McBroom has coached at Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and R.L. Turner in Carrollton. With the rich tradition the McBroom family has at Ada, it may be difficult for some to imagine him coaching at Ada's biggest rival high school.

Larry, his brother Gary, and father Craig McBroom have a long coaching legacy in Ada. The family has been in charge of Ada football for 43 of the last 49 years. McBroom won 199 games in two separate stints with the Cougars from 1980 to '95 and 2000 to 2003.

I hope your kids can handle him. He probably lost a little bite since he went to Texas. But don't kid yourself, we beat you because our team 93-95 and 96, had way more talent than Ardmore, and we had coach Craig up in the booth calling the shots. He was the coach of Ada, and he was the reason we played like we did. Larry will just sit and play with his QB's while the real coaches make the team. I hope he has the same assistants.

Folks, nobody's more familiar w/ LB than me (and all the other former Ada QB's), and he has good and bad, just like anyone. For me, the bad outweighed the good (players, he picks his favorites and parents, keep an eye on your cheerleaders), but maybe he's outgrown his past shenanigans. Everyone can change, non? Nonetheless, Ardmore gets a competent coach, though LB and Co. have been & always will be stuck in an outdated offensive mindset. This has served him well at times (mostly due to Ada's talent over the years), but his recent track record suggests he's gettin outclassed. Now that he's back in smaller town OK football, he'll probably be consistently over .500 w/ some district championships, etc., but time will tell whether he's going to adapt and evolve or if his old approach can still be successful. Ultimately, good luck, and I'll be there to watch '08 opener, but don't kid yourself, Tigers, nobody's mourning LB's departure from Greater Ada. And oh yeah: NO MORE ARDMORE!!

Miguel and Pedro, you know you play football with an oval shaped brown-looking ball right? He probably got tired of trying to coach a bunch of unmotivated, clueless, little boys! Sounds like the 0-10 team couldn't cut it!

We loved the McBroom Family while they were here in Ada! They were a wonderful loving and giving Christian family. He is a great coach! His wife and daughter are very friendly and supportive! Ardmore, you are receiving an awesome Coach and family that you will love and be proud of! Good luck McBroom family and please know you are still welcome in Ada!!! :)

I heard Weber is already feeling the pressure to win next year as well as the players!

Ada Folks are stupid for ever letting this man with this much coaching abilities and knowledge go!

Larry McBroom is one of the most decent, conscientious men I have ever seen in being a part of and observing HS athletics for over 40 years. A strong Christian (not politically correct), Coach Larry works diligently at motivating young athletes to be honest and responsible people to themselves, their parents, and the community. Ardmore is blessed. RL Turner's administrators didn't believe that holding high standards and building character counts in life. Best of everthing Coach Larry and Ardmore--God Speed to you and the family.

Am I the only person that thinks this is crazy?

He has been thinking of moving for 6 months? Hmm, guess there is a reason Ada chose Weber over McBroom. We wish you well Ardmore.
