Trenton Moves On, Gunter Goes Home

Trenton, TX -- The Trenton Tigers broke a school record tonight when they advanced pass the third round of playoffs for the first time ever, beating Santo High School.

Trenton played at Denton-Guyer against the Santo Wildcats. The Tigers created a nice pad for themselves in the first inning. Every player got some action with the ten straight runs before the Wildcats ever got to bat.

The highlight in the first comes from Chris Pollard who hit a three run homer over the left field fence, making it 7-0. They would score 10 more runs and win on a run rule 17-0.

Trenton now advances to the 1A Regional Semi-finals. The last two years the Tigers were sent home after the third round as Area Champs. This year is the deepest they have gone in the playoffs.

GUNTER, TX -- That coin flip proved to be crucial.

Gunter Tigers' Head Baseball Coach Todd Hogan knew he was in a bit of a tight spot when Mildred won the pre-series coin toss to determine the length of their playoff series. The Mildred coach opted for a winner-take-all game, and was the beginning of the end for Gunter.

The Tigers were confident about their chances coming in to tonight's game against the Eagles in Frisco. But, after 2 innings the scoreboard over the right field fence showed them down 7-0. That proved to be too big of a hill to climb for the Tigers, as they were eliminated by Mildred 7-4.

Jake Arrington provided Gunter's first scoring play in the bottom of the 3rd. He lined a single to right that brought in Paul Nicholson and Trevor Beaty to make it a 7-2 game. Arrington also filled in admirably on the mound in relief of the games starter Brandon Pierce.
