Craig James coaches Celina to state tournament

ARLINGTON, TX -- Last week the Sherman 7-on-7 football team took the field for the SMU Regional Qualifier, this week it was Celina’s turn. The reigning state champions began pool play Saturday morning at the Arlington-Bowie Qualifier in hopes to make it to the 7-on-7 State Tournament in College Station.

Former college football star and current commentator Craig James took on coaching duties for Celina. He helped the Bobcats roll through pool play, beating Lake Worth and Palmer along the way. They would move on to the semifinals to face Prosper High School.

Celina beat Prosper and earned an automatic bid to the 1A-3A State 7-on-7 Tournament. They played Brownwood in the Finals, where they lost 35-27, but still have a ticket to play for state in College Station.

Celina will host their own 7-on-7 Regional Qualifier this Saturday. Several of our North Texas high schools will all be vying for a berth in the State Tournament.
