A | A | A

Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine hit the newsstands on Monday, complete with their high school football district predictions.

Their forecasting task is probably more challenging for the first season after Realignment. But, the magazine is looking favorable upon both the Sherman and Denison football teams.

Their predictions for how the new District 9-4A will turn out look like this:

1) Denison
2) McKinney
3) Sherman
4) Frisco
5) Frisco Wakeland
6) Frisco Centennial
7) McKinney North
8) Frisco Liberty

Denison takes the top spot based largely on their high number of returning starters. In his 2nd year at the helm, head coach Cody White will have 18 players back from last season, 10 on offense and 8 on defense. It was a season of steady improvement for the Yellowjackets, that culminated with their dramatic win in the Battle of the Axe.

Sherman is picked to be the 3rd out of 4 playoff teams from the district. The Bearcats will have a new quarterback in 2008 after the departure of Matt Rome. But, due to his injury last season, the 2 players with a shot at replacing him, Madison Carter and Garrett Powell, both saw significant playing time. Also back for the bearcats is RB Waymon James who was 1st-team All District for the last 2 seasons.

Of note, is the fact that UIL rule changes at the 4A level will now have 4 teams earning playoff spots in every sport, as opposed to just 3.

For the complete breakdown, you can purchase your own copy of the 2008 Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine wherever magazines are sold.
