Report: OKC basketball team has picked a new name Save Email Print

According to a report from Oklahoma City television station KOCO, the Oklahoma City's new NBA franchise has already decided on their new team name: Oklahoma City Thunder.

The report cites the fact that the company in charge of acquiring internet domain names for the NBA team websites purchased the address of okcthunderbasketball.com on July 10th.

According to the T.V. station, this is a clear indicator that the new inhabitants of the Ford Center, will be known as the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Team officials refused to comment on the report, saying only that when they have news to announce regarding the team's new name, they will announce it.

Team officials also said that there are no press confrences scheduled for the near future.

i dislike the name. i was thinking more like the oklahoma outlaws. has a much better ring to it.

My mom and I came up with the OKC Twisters. It's hard to come up with something catchy that still pertains to Oklahoma without it beening Native American. If they went that way they would just have to change it and I'm sure the ProNative would be having a fit over the name.

I doubt it will end up being thunder. In charlotte the bobcats were going to be the "cougars" and the nba even bought the domain name, but it didn't happen. They would never want the name to get out before the announcement. Don't count on that name. It will probably end in "ers" or "s".
