Denison Yellow Jackets

District: 9-4A
Last year: 4-6 (3-3)
Coach: Cody White

Outlook: The Yellow Jackets started nine sophomores last year, so they expect an experienced group coming back on both sides of the ball. With the district change and depth, Denison has a great chance to win the district.

Ardmore Tigers

District: 5A-2
Last year: 6-4
Coach: Larry McBroom

Outlook:Former Ada Coach Larry McBroom takes over the Tigers program. You can’t deny his success (7 state titles). It will be interesting to see how his brand of football is welcomed in Ardmore. If the Tigers start winning again, he will be a local hero.

Sherman Bearcats

District: 9-4A
Last year:4-6 (2-4)
Coach: Drew Young

Outlook: The Bearcats are returning four starters on the offense and four on the defense as they enter the new district, including first-team all district running back the last two years Waymon James. Sherman should contend for one of the playoff spots in district 9-4A.

Durant Lions

District: 5A-2

Coach: Byron Cordell

Outlook: The Lions captured the 4th and final playoff spot in 2007. This year they want to get back to the post-season with a better seeding. Cordell will call on Max White to lead the offense after losing his brother, Bo White, to graduation.

Celina Bobcats

District: 9-3A
Last year: 16-0 (7-0) 2A Division II State Champion
Coach: Butch Ford

Outlook: With losses on both sides of the ball and a new quarterback, the defending DII State Champions will have a tough time repeating their wildly successful 2007 season. Of those returning, running backs Troy McCartney and Charley Waldrep should have a productive season after combining for 48 touchdowns last year.

Ada Cougars

District: 5-3A
Last year: 5-5
Coach: Matt Weber

Outlook: Matt Weber takes over as the head coach at Ada. Much like the McBroom family, the Weber family has football in the bloodlines. Weber will bring his father, Joe Weber, to help out in the rebuilding of the Cougars.

Gainesville Leopards

District: 9-3A
Last year: 1-9 (1-5)
Coach: Ricky Lock

Outlook: Coach Ricky Lock enters his first year at Gainesville after the team won only one game last year. The Panthers return a lot more skill players in 2008 that should help them climb in the rankings, including running back DeShawn Franklin and defensive back Dawson Royal.

Dickson Comets

District: 3A-2
Last year: 4-6
Coach: Mitchell Crittenden

Outlook: The Comets have a new coach as Mitchell Crittenden takes over in Dickson. The Comets set a school record for turnovers last season. Crittenden says if they can take care of the ball, they can push for a playoff spot.

Whitesboro Bearcats

District: 9-3A
Last year: 7-3 (4-3)
Coach: Eddie Gill

Outlook: The Bearcats are ranked in the middle of the 9-3A pack. This year should look much like last season. Their strength will be in their line with two all-district offensive linemen returning, Hayden Baillio and Kenny Powell, along with four other all-district players.

Lone Grove Longhorns

District: 3A-2
Last year: 1-9
Coach: Kenny Ridley

Outlook: Kenny Ridley enters his 3rd season at Lone Grove. The Longhorns were a playoff team two years ago, but fell on hard times in 2007. Lone Grove looks to bounce back after a 1-9 campaign.

Anna Coyotes

District: 10-3A
Last year: 2-8 (2-3)
Coach: Chris Dodd

Outlook: The Coyotes are in for another tough season even though they are returning seven starters on offense and eight starters on defense. The experience on both sides of the ball should help Anna out, but it may not be enough to make an impact in District 10-3A.

Madill Wildcats

District: 3A-2

Coach: Kerry Roberts

Outlook: Madill will turn to Kerry Roberts to lead the Wildcats football team in 2008. He served as an assistant on Brad O’Steen’s staff before his departure. Madill looks to improve on a .500 season. They finished 5th in an 8 team district last year.

Bonham Purple Warriors

District: 10-3A
Last year: 0-10 (0-7)
Coach: John Hall

Outlook: The Warriors have no where to go but up, and it looks like they will improve this year. It is their second year in a new system and a good off-season has tremendously improved their strength.

Hugo Buffaloes

District:: 3A-4
Last year: 3-7
Coach: Tommy Cummings

Outlook: After a long coaching search, Hugo will be under the direction of their former principal, Tommy Cummings. He takes over a team that hopes to contend for the playoff spot in 3A-4.

North Lamar Panthers

District: 10-3A
Last year: 3-7 (1-4)
Coach: Tommy Felty

Outlook: The drop in district should help the Panthers compete for that top spot. There is plenty of depth and experience with 24 returning lettermen.

Atoka Wampus Cats

District: 2A-4

Coach: Forrest Mazey

Outlook: After a disappointing 0-10 season, hopes are high in Atoka. Forrest Mazey enters his 3rd season at the helm, and has several starters returning. Atoka could be a sleeper in 2A-4.

Paris Wildcats

Coach: Travis Smith

Outlook: After losing every game in the district last year, the Wildcats have dropped down to 10-3A where they are now in contention for first place. The team has a great balance between offense and defense with quarterback Quinn Rollerson and linebacker McKinnley Burkett.

Coalgate Wildcats

District: 2A-4
Last year:3-7
Coach: Frank Howard

Outlook: The Wildcats have their 4th head coach in 4 years. Frank Howard takes over a team that won just three games, but they were the 3 that mattered. Coalgate made the playoffs with a 3-7 record and hope to improve on their 2007 campaign.

Van Alystne Panthers

District: 10-3A
Last year: 2-8 (1-6)
Coach: Brian Polk

Outlook: The Panthers are in the middle of the pack this year with the addition of the 4A schools dropping down. Of the returning 12 starters, quarterback Jake Willingham who recorded 14 touchdowns and linebacker Raul Biscarro who racked up 78 tackles last year should help the Panthers improve this year.

Davis Wolves

District: 2A-4
Last year: 8-2
Coach: Jody Weber

Outlook: The Davis Wolves won the district champioship in 2007. They have their sights set on that same goal in ’08. Jody Weber returns a veteran team that knows how to win.

Callisburg Wildcats

District: 10-2A

Coach: Jerry Bomar

Outlook: The Wildcats return 14 letterman this year. Coach Jerry Bomar also returns five all-district players from both the offense and defense. Their experience, size and strength should all be assets to the Wildcats in 2008.

Kingston Redskins

District: 2A-4
Last year: 5-5
Coach: Jeremy Atwood

Outlook: The Redskins just missed out on the playoffs in 2007, finishing 5-5 on the year, and 3-4 in district. After making the playoffs in 2006, the Redskins are anxious to return this year.

Pottsboro Cardinals

District: 10-2A
Last year: 8-3 (6-1) D1 Bi-District Finalist
Coach: Matt Poe

Outlook: Last year, Coach Poe led the Cardinals to the playoffs, ending a five-year absence. Look for them to repeat and improve their success this year as they return 22 lettermen.

Marietta Indians

District: 2A-4
Last year: 2-8
Coach: DeWayne Taylor

Outlook: DeWayne Taylor returns as the head coach at Marietta, taking over for Graham Snelding. The Indians were just 2-8 last year, but should be an improved squad this season.

S& S Rams

District: 10-2A
Last year: 4-6 (3-4)
Coach: Ashby Porter

Outlook: Coach Ashby Porter replaced Billy Edwards as head coach of the Rams. S&S will need their returning 14 starters to step up even more this year to keep from coming in last place in district 10-2A.

Plainview Indians

District: 2A-4
Last year: 10-0
Coach: Corey Cole

Outlook: The Plainview Indians had a break through season last year, making it all the way to the state semifinals. It was a record setting season for a very talented team. QB Brandon Allen returns to lead the Plainview attack in 2008.

Valley View Eagles

District: 10-2A
Last year: 10-2 (5-0) Class-A D1 Regional
Coach: Terry Felderhoff

Outlook: The Eagles move up from 1-A this year after their successful 2007 season, but also lost 10 starters to graduation. With all the changes, including a new coach, Terry Felderhoff, 2008 may be a rebuilding year for Valley View.

Sulphur Bulldogs

District: 2A-4
Last year: 7-3
Coach: Jim Dixon

Outlook: The Sulphur Bulldogs are moving down in classification from 3A to 2A. The Bulldogs are coming off a season in which they reached the playoffs. Jim Dixon expects his team to be in the post-season again, despite moving into a tough district with Davis and Plainview.

Bells Panthers

District: 11-2A
Last year: 1-9 (0-7)
Coach: Charles Boles

Outlook: The Panthers are in for another tough year if they want to improve on last year’s record. Bells will have to overcome youth and adjust to a coaching change as Charles Boles takes over the program.

Tishomingo Indians

District: 2A-4
Last year: 7-3
Coach: Mark Patterson

Outlook: Mark Patterson did one of the best coaching jobs in the area last year, guiding his Tishomingo team to a 6-1 district record. The only loss came to Davis. The schedule will be tougher this year, with Plainview and Sulphur joining the mix, but the Indians figure to be a playoff contender again.

Gunter Tigers

District: 11-2A
Last year: 12-1 (7-0) 2A DII Regional Semifinalist
Coach: Jake Fieszel

Outlook: Gunter’s challenge will be to make up for the loss of a huge senior class if they plan on repeating last year’s district sweep. The Tigers return only three starters on the defense and none on the offense. Their only all-district players left from 2007 are strong safety Brad Cross and running back Jordan Foster.

Healdton Bulldogs

District: 1A-3
Last year: 6-4
Coach: Reade Box

Outlook: The Bulldogs just missed the playoffs in 2007, finishing 4-4 in district play. This year, there’s a new coach. Reade Box takes over in Healdton as they prepare to get back to the post-season expectations they have in Bulldog country.

Howe Bulldogs

District: 11-2A
Last year: 3-7 (1-6)
Coach: Stony Coffman

Outlook: The Bulldogs should be more competitive as they return 12 letterman in Coach Coffman’s second year as head coach. Quarterback Braden Crab is back and healthy from a knee injury last season to help lead the Bulldogs.

Ringling Blue Devils

District: 1A-3
Last year: 10-0
Coach: Tracy Gandy

Outlook: The Ringling Blue Devils return from another high successful season including a district championship. Expectations are that the Blue Devils will repeat in ’08. Tracy Gandy always has his team ready to play on Friday nights.

Leonard Tigers

District: 11-2A
Last year: 1-9 (1-4)
Coach: Shane Fletcher

Outlook: Coach Fletcher has 13 lettermen returning for the 2008 season. Among those returning are a lot of skill players and a bigger offensive line. Leonard will have to work hard to stay in the middle of the district.

Velma-Alma Comets

District: 1A-3

Coach: Greg Gothard

Outlook:Velma-Alma is always in the hunt for a district and state championship. That won’t change this year. The Comets are geared up for another big playoff run in a tough district.

Melissa Cardinals

District: 11-2A

Coach: Ronny Williams

Outlook: The Cardinals are looking to knock off Gunter as the district champions this year with 17 returning lettermen. Quarterback Zach Williams and linebacker Jacob Self should help Melissa to continue building a winning tradition in 2008.

Wilson Eagles

District: 1A-4
Last year: 1-9
Coach: Bob Richmond

Outlook: Wilson struggled to a 1-9 season a year ago. The Eagles are a very young team with only two seniors. It could be tough sledding in a very strong district, but Wilson has some talented young players as they prepare for the future.

Tom Bean Tomcats

District: 11-2A

Coach: Tal Sanders

Outlook: The Tomcats are in their second year in Coach Sanders system, so the team should be both quicker and stronger. They will be another team in the middle of district 11-2A.

Caddo Bruins

District: B-2

Coach: Randy Hittsman

Outlook: Caddo enters the 2008 season expecting to compete for a playoff spot in B-2. Randy Hittsman leads the charge for the Bruins.

Whitewright Tigers

District: 11-A

Coach: Dale Trompler

Outlook: The Tigers have to reload this season to have the same success as last year. The 13 returning letterman are expected to pick up the slack if Whitewright expects to get to playoffs.

Fox Foxes

District: B-2

Coach: Jimmy Dushane

Outlook: The Foxes are always a threat to go all the way. Their playoff run prematurely ended last season in the 1st round, which gives Fox all the motivation they need for ’08.

Blue Ridge Tigers

District: 13-A

Coach: Kevin Wiggins

Outlook: The Tigers are still rebuilding from their personnel loss in 2006 as they drop down to 1A. The nine returning starters will have work hard to keep Blue Ridge from dropping to the bottom of the district.

Collinsville Pirates

District: 13-A
Last year: 8-4 (4-1) DII Area Finalist
Coach: Danny David

Outlook: Coach David is counting on team speed and senior leadership as 13 lettermen return to the Pirates team. On offense, quarterback Mitch Lawdermilk has the potential for a 2,000-yard season with running back Ethan Willams to score the touchdowns. On the defensive side, defensive linemen Matt Weaver should be a top player after earning 82 tackles last season..

Lindsay Knights

District: 13-A
Last year: 15-6 (3-2) DII Bi-District Finalist
Coach: Cody Bounds

Outlook: Despite losing a good senior class, the Knights should be competing for the district championship. They will need to fill the many holes in skill positions, but Lindsay’s three all-district players, WR/DB Ross Jones, DL Jeremy Perry and OL Casey Shauf, should keep the Knights on top.

Muenster Hornets

District: 13-A

Coach: Allen Cross

Outlook: Coach Allen Cross will inherit a Hornets team that returns all of it’s top starters. If they can adjust to the coaching change, their experienced lettermen should help Muenster earn a playoff spot.

Honey Grove Warriors

District: 11-2A

Coach: James Fuller

Outlook: Honey Grove suffered a lot of injuries in 2007 that forced freshmen onto the field. This year they think that experience will benefit them greatly in a new district.
