Rangers rally in 9th to tame the Tigers

Marlon Byrd hit a two-run triple in the ninth inning and scored the winning run on Chris Davis’ single as the Texas Rangers rallied past Detroit 5-4 on Tuesday night, extending the Tigers’ losing streak to six games.

Fernando Rodney (0-6) took over to start the ninth, but walked Michael Young after the count was 0-2 and allowed Josh Hamilton’s single before Byrd tripled into the right-field corner.

The Tigers intentionally walked consecutive batters to load the bases for Davis, and the rookie singled over the head of drawn-in left fielder Matt Joyce.
