Mavs Take Series Lead

PHOENIX (AP) - The Dallas Mavericks are proving to be road
warriors in the playoffs and now are just two victories away from
their first N-B-A Finals appearance in franchise history.

The Mavericks defeated Phoenix 95-to-88 to take a 2-to-1 lead in
the Western Conference finals. The Mavs are 5-and-2 on the road in
the playoffs.

Dirk Nowitzki (noh-VIHT'-skee) had 28 points and 17 rebounds for
the Mavs, who overcame an eleven-point first-half deficit. They
regained home-court advantage they lost in the series opener. Josh
Howard added 22 points and 12 rebounds.

The Mavericks did it with defense, too. They held the Suns to
just 36 points in the second half. Steve Nash led the Suns with 21
and Boris Diaw (DEE'-ow) added 21. They dropped their second
straight game without Raja Bell, who is out with a strained left
calf.
Game Four is Tuesday night in Phoenix.
