After hitting .600 with three homers and 11 runs batted in, East Central University sophomore third baseman Kasey Barber has picked up another award.
Barber, from Elgin, Okla., was named Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Player of the Week on Wednesday. The announcement came after she was chosen Lone Star Conference North Hitter of the Week on Tuesday.
Her performance came as the Lady Tigers got off to a 3-1 start to the 2009 season by sweeping Washburn (Kan.) and splitting a pair of games with Northwest Missouri State in action during the University of Central Oklahoma Broncho Invitational last weekend in Edmond.
Barber homered in all three of the victories as she was a combined 9-of-15 from the plate in the four games with two walks. She posted an on-base percentage of .647 and a slugging percentage of 1.333 in the four games. On top of that, she played error-free at the hot corner as she recorded two putouts and assisted on five other plays.
Barber was voted LSC North Freshman of the Year in 2008 after batting .347 with 10 doubles, four triples, one homer and 31 runs batted in last season.
It was also announced that fellow Lone Star Conference player, Katie Petersen, of Midwestern State University was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Pitcher of the Week. Peterson also nabbed the LSC North Pitcher of the Week honor on Tuesday.
