Southeastern quarterback Dallas McCutcheon tied a Savage Storm record with five touchdown passes in guiding SE to a 54-38 win over Henderson State (Ark.) in the season opener which featured a 40 minute lightning delay near the end of the first quarter.
McCutcheon tallied 359 yards on 21-of-37 passing, with Daniel Nichols hauling in the bulk of those en route to a seven catch night with 131 yards and three TD’s. SE running back Baylen Laury also chipped in 114 yards rushing and a pair of scores, while tight end Jerrod Temple hauled in a pair of TD scores of his own.
HSU’s Roch Carpenter completed 21-of-40 for 274 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw a pair of interceptions, while Chris Evering racked up 120 in receiving and a score.
Southeastern will be back in action on Sept. 5 when it hosts Midwestern State at 7 p.m., while Henderson State will hit the road again on Sept. 5 to face Division I McNeese State at 7 p.m. in Lake Charles, La.
